Road Closures UK is a public information service providing comprehensive records of road closures, roadworks permits, and traffic regulation orders across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Our focus is on the complete public record — the legal permit references, promoting organisations, highway authority details, and official notices that underpin every road closure. This is information that road users, journalists, researchers, and local authorities need but that is rarely surfaced in a single, accessible place.

What we show

For every road closure, we display the full permit reference number, the organisation promoting the works, the responsible highway authority, the legal notice text where available, the work status, and whether a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) is required. We also show historical closures on the same road and related news articles.

Our data sources

All data comes directly from official UK government sources, updated every 15 minutes:

• Street Manager — Department for Transport's national permit system for roadworks and closures in England
• National Highways — Motorway and major A-road closures from the UK's strategic road network operator
• D-TRO — Digital Traffic Regulation Orders service for England
• Traffic Scotland — Official traffic management data for Scotland's road network
• Traffic Wales / Traffig Cymru — Official road closure data for Wales
• TrafficWatchNI — Road closure information for Northern Ireland

Editorial approach

Road Closures UK's editorial team monitors official government data feeds continuously. News articles are generated from live disruption data and reviewed for accuracy. Every article cites the specific road, location, highway authority, and permit reference where available. We do not publish unverified or speculative closure information.

Our data pipeline ingests, deduplicates, and filters closure records to ensure only genuine UK road closures are displayed. Non-UK data sources are explicitly excluded.

Who we are

Road Closures UK is an independent information service built to make official UK road closure data accessible to everyone. We are not affiliated with any highway authority, government department, or the operators of any road network. We do not receive funding from any road authority or commercial traffic data provider.
