About National Highways
National Highways (formerly Highways England) is the government-owned company responsible for operating, maintaining, and improving England's motorways and major A-roads — the Strategic Road Network (SRN). The SRN comprises approximately 4,300 miles of motorways and major A-roads, carrying around a third of all road traffic in England. National Highways manages all road closures, contraflows, and major works on motorways including the M1, M6, M25, M4, M3, and M40, as well as strategic A-roads such as the A1(M), A2, A3, A14, and A34.
Road closures managed by National Highways are reported through the UK government's Street Manager system and appear here in real time. This page shows all current and recent closures on the National Highways network.
