About the Severn Bridge
The Severn Bridge (M48) is a suspension bridge crossing the River Severn between Aust in Gloucestershire and Chepstow in Monmouthshire, Wales. Opened in 1966, it was the first fixed crossing of the Severn and carries the M48 motorway. Managed by National Highways, the bridge is subject to closures in high winds and is an important route between England and South Wales. A toll was charged until 2018.
