The Dartford East Tunnel is one of two road tunnels forming part of the Dartford Crossing on the M25 motorway in Kent. The east tunnel carries northbound traffic under the River Thames between Dartford and Thurrock. Opened in 1980, it is managed by National Highways and forms part of the DART charge scheme. Closures cause severe congestion on the M25 as traffic is diverted to the Dartford Bridge.
